open in viewerBleak House (1852-53) focuses in part on legal abuses in Victorian England, and offers two very different narrators: an omniscient third-person narrator, and the dutiful and modest Esther Summerson. The 20 monthly serial parts appeared between March 1852 and September 1853, with the 19th and 20th installments appearing as a double number. The illustrations and wrapper design are by Hablot K. Browne.
