FRIDAY SEPT. 8 1949 [Stamp: French] Dufor and helper worked today cutting out hardback, young trees etc leaving bay berry, laurel and blueberries. Letter from Bill came today dated Sept 7th "I moved out of the studio and into a small cheap but pleasand room with plenty of light where I can work in the hotel St Thomas D'Acquin. Mary Callery wants to give up her apartment on quai Vottoire and move into the studio; and also with all the workmen around (as she is having a show in Paris next month) I thought it better to move out altogether. But irs been wonderful having had the studio to work in all this time. Tonight I go to the opera with a young French critic to hear my favorite Rosenkavalier sung by Rise Stevens and Emannual List. Jim Booth arrived in great style on the Queen Elizabeth 1st class looking lost, but finds he loves Paris. I haven't seen a great deal of him but we may go to England together next week for a week. I have been meaning to do that for some time, then he will go north to Denmark and I'll return here, but I'm planning probably to go to Rome in October possibly for the month. I'm living now right in the heart of Paris, near the river. Booth is in a more expensive hotel around the corner and the Schrades in still another not mych further away. Some morning I go to school to draw from the nude, but mostly I work in my roon, or go aroung with a little sketch book to take down notes and ideas. Fortunately since I'm drawing rather than painting, I can do it mych more easily wherever I am. Jim Booth says he wants to buy a couple of the drawings, the Ackermans do also, but they all want the same ones! The Schades daughter, Lavinia, had her 16th birthday on Saturday so to celebrate we took the little Bateau Mouche as it's called for two hours up (continued on page Sept 6)
