Sunday, August 3, 1941 Clear [Headlines: Sunday Telegram; War news] [Headlines: New York Times; World News] A walk this morning with Alex and Richard Gagney First Elise and I picked 3 quarts of blueberries. Mother and Kitty here for dinner. Bill called at 11 this morning and said he would meet us at the main gate of Fort Devens at 2. Mother Kitty Elise and I drove the 22 miles there arriving at 2 exactly. We found Bill waiting for us just inside the gate. He told us that yesterday is his examination he was rejected twice because his pulse was 130. He was told to wait and then when his pulse went down to 98 he was accepted. There were about 60 young men and 9 or 10 rejected. They went back to Fort Devens reaching there at 4:PM Bill is in Company D Barracks 3 Recruiting Center. Fort Devens. This is a very hard day for Bill as the boys have nothing to do all day and it is such a very great change for Bill. He looked tired and he is nervous. My heart went out to him. I would have given anything to have brought him home with us. Tomorrow he has his IQ test and gets his uniform. and has 6 hours drilling he does not know what Camp he will be sent to or when. We want to see Bill as often as we can. [Letterhead: Tatnuck Country Club] [Drawing: Flower]
