Public Deposited[Letterhead: The Mayflower Washington D.C.] Wednesday, April 10, 1940 Reached Washington at 8.30 A.M. checked our bags and kept on to Baltimore. We had never seen our new branch house there. It is the most modern of all our branches. We spent 2 hours there with Ray Finch leaving at noon for Washington. Registered at the Mayflower, then went to the Auditorium of the Dept. of Commerce building. Here was an interesting exhibit of inventions and new devices The printing or rather reproduction of pictures & printed matter so a newspaper could be reproduced in ones own home was demonstrated. Also a demonstration was given of the working of the dial telephones. Glass cloth slow show. Later we took a cab and spent an hour seeing the beginning of cherry clossoms which are not yet out but in bud. Bopf joined us. I took colored pictures of Supreme Court Bldg. Capiton, Mellon Art Gallery etc. At seven was the banquet at the Mayflower for the Sesquentenial of the founding of the Patent Office. 1200 guests I think it was the most elaborate dinner I ever saw. Kettering toastmaster. At 10 the program went on the blue network of N.B.C. for 1/2 hour. I sat at a table of 12 and talked at length with C.H. Burgess. head of Bayers Reaserch Laboratories, and Battery Co. It was a thrilling time.
