[Insert: Letter] Mrs. Hildegarde Sack in Leipzig has asked me to report to you the latest hap- penings as she is not able to write you direct from Leipzig. Dr Hans Sack was arrested on October 15 and since then has been in prison for examination. The inten- tion of making the factory a public property had been noticeable for some time. As it become known so far the investigators have brought out nothing that might show that the factory had not been run efficiently. Dr Sack is blamed politically, he is supposed to be a reactionary captialist in order to take the factor away from him. It is stated that the regular receipt of Western Zone newspapers, his repeated trips to the Western Zone, his relationship with foreign countries, and other similar acts are his offenses. A few employees of the factory were allowed to see Dr Sack for a short time on business. Mrs Sack can exchange letters with him but she can not see him. Neither has the attorney been allowed to speak to Dr Sack. Mrs Sack still lives in the dwelling in the factory with the three youngest children. Her mail is subject to police control. She begs therefore that letters be sent to Frau Hans Sack (not to Dr Hans Sack) care Frou Annieliese lessing, Berlin-Zehlendorf, Onkel Tomstr Ss. A few days ago Mrs Sack received a CARE package from USA. She surmises that she has you to thank for the package and instructed me to notify you of the receipt of the package and for the time being to express her sincerest thanks. In case you should be able to send further packages to the same address she would be deeply obliged to you, since in her present condition every help is extremely important. How long the investgation arrest of Dr Sack may be drawn out nobody can tell. We hope that it will soon have a successful outcome. with best regards Arthur Finger
