Public DepositedFriday, November 22, 1940 [Headlines: New York Times; War news] This morning mothe Kate Elise and I went to Sunnyside Nurseries to get flowers for Phil's funeral. We all called on Ruth, then on Marjorie, then went up to Nellie Curtis's - The four of us went to Howard Johnson's for lunch. Then Elise and I took Ruth out for an hour and a half. She wanted to tell us of Marjorie's circum- stances. She is comfortable situated. John will go into his father's business. Both Marjorie and Ruth are very brave; it will be very hard for both of them. Then we went to see Mary Allen whose father died lately. Bill arrived about 530 and it's fine to see him. The thermometer reached 650 today. Mother feels that it would be better for her to come out to visit us after Christmas and then she cans tay for a good visit. Talked with Percy on the phone.
