Public Deposited31 January 31 WEDNESDAY Cloudy 20 years ago today we moved into our house. Harold H. Kemper of Cedar Rapids here to see HX| tractor. He raises 3 acres of asparagus planted about 42" rows. He plows 11/2" to 2" deep 42 [Drawing: depth] with 14" plow throwing away from the row. Then with regular cultivator and discs 3 acres of sweet corn (drilled) 4 acres of strawberries 42 " tows cultivate 10 or12 times with 8 shovel rigs. one row at a time. Bed lasts 3yrs. Leave furrow next plants to catch the summers. This means servicing the rigs. Plowing about 30 acres fall & spring each. Grapes 81/2 acres rows from 70" to 108" wide disc after every rain or when weeds show. The HX would not fit in these 70" rows. Potaores 3 rows 35 " rows 1 row cultivation at a time 4 cultivations. Blackberries Rasberries 48" centers Too hight to cultivate with tractor. House radish 21/2 acres 35" rows 1 row cultivation 4 times over use deep plow to harvest.
