Wednesday, May 26, 1937 Rain Reached Detroit early. Fletcher &I went to Windsor where he bought a rain coat for 1950. Requested for changing in meeting and heard that speaker try to sell Arkansas We then wnet out to Greenfield collage and went thru the Edison Museum. We went to [Stamps:Canadian 3 cents] the Dearborn Inn for lunch and there met and talked with Dr. George Washington Carver a most remarkable oldnegro chemist who has done wonders. At afternoon sessionheard Dr Heber Grant Morman and several others. The only interesting talk was on the weather by Reid of Weather Bureau He said in Iowa corn could stand about 4 days of 1000 temterature but every day after that of 1000 or over the yeild would be decreased a bushel per acre for each suceeding day of 100o or more. Also that high temperatures were more detramental to corn than lack of moisture. He predicted a cool summer. Banquet in evening lasting til 1130. Alot of hot air more was said of the big things to be done then any constructive way ofdoing them. Very much disappointed in getting anything of a concrete nature out of the meeting. Two good stories 1. Desert place transformed, some one said you & God have done wanders. He said you should have seen it while God had cull charge~~~ Girl Youngster 3 swore, mother tried to break habit told her when invited to party she would have her sent home if she swore. Started for party at 2 at 220 came home Mother sent her to bed. "But Mumy" no "buts" go to bed. A tear stained girl when her daddy came home, said "The Godam party is tomorrow".
