FRIDAY Jan. 21, 1949 Amy writes Jan 19th "Mother is decidedly better and her mind very clear. I told her I was going to write you and asked if she had any message. She said to send lots of love and say she did not know how the time had gone by so fast and that she did not quite understand what had happened. She is evidently puzzled by her illness and can't account for it or for the days that have just gone by. She really is not sick in the true sense of the word. She is what the nurse calls, "wearing out." Her heart is strong but today when she sat on the chair a moment she was faint. The night nurse does not get her out of bed at all but the day nurse thinks it is wise to do so once a day. The nurse says she is the loveliest patient she has ever had. She is wholly cooperatice and does everything asked. Now that she is better, I fear time will lag more because she does not sleep so much. She enjoys her meals and is very appreciate of averything done for her. But she does need someone in the room with her all the time and Kate and I feel it important to change the night nurse for a practical nurse who will come at 730 P.M. and sty 12 hours The day nurse thinks the case may be a long one and would like to shorten her day to 10 hours. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elise & I at the Altgelts for dinner.
