The objective of this work is to advance surface metrology and the understanding of the relations between processing and surface topography of parts made by laser melting. These relations are valuable, because they support the design of additive manufacturing processes that can influence the resulting surface roughness. These relations must be established through the discoveries of correlations between surface topographies and process parameters, which must be done experimentally.
