Monday SUNDAY OCT 9 1949 Letter from Bill dated Oct 5 came today "Your letters came quickly too. You have the address of my hotel correctly. 3 RUE PRÉ AUX CLERCS I see mych less of Callery now that she out of the studio and more people my own age. And I'm getting more work done than I've been able to do for some time. While I"m working wee I will postpone my intended trip to Italy. Also the Hess's are cooming the end of the month. I have several English and French friends here as well as Americans One a writer named [Hesn?] He is very fond of music and has a piano, the other night we were playing duets when Stephen Spenda, the English poet came in to call. Also I met Elizabeth Bower several nights ago - She's a great friend of Mary's Mostly my life is mostly routine and there really isnt much to write about. I did go out to the country on Tuesday and spent a day canoeing on the Marne. It's a lovely river and looks just like a Dufy water color of it. It is getting colder here already. But still pleasant. However I wonder if I will survive the heart of the winter. I have been thinking that perhaps I may come home by the middle of December. But no definite plans Love Bill Elise and I with Walter Mueller at Thuevens office this afternoon.
