351 December 17 MONDAY Clear/Rain At Henry Maguins, Thibedeaux, where we spent the day with Kronke, Henry, C R White. His is the one dealer in the sugar cane district that is really doing business for John Deere. At the Waubarn plantation we saw cane harvested and loaded with a load Maguin had built on a G.P. Tractor. Std G.P. front end and wide tread rear with 68" tread. We went to E.G. Robichaux plantation where we saw Allis Chalmers tractors and cane being planted. In afternoon we went to Valentine Mill at Lockport where we met F.L. Barker manager. He is a strong man and is much interested in hauling cane with tractors & rubber tired trailers. Henry Maguin is very anxious for a tractor suitable for his work. He has sold 80 D's and as he said "I've made money but I've spent it on experimental work I love it." He has built a plow and has marked it Patented Jan 1 1929 but he said just between us there is no patent. We left the others Harold White McCormick &I drove thru the rain 175 miles to Crowley in the rain. Went by Ecangeline State Park. Down here the natives are called 'Cagers' an abbreviation for Arcadians. [Letterhead: Egan Hotel, Crowley, La.]
