Thursday, August 28, 1941 Wonderful weather Clear [Headlines: Boston Globe;World news] Today is one of those rare clear cool days. Spent all morning triming and carrying away much, picking a quart of blackberries, taking off porch screens and awnings. In afternoon took Sam Hobbs up Wachusett We took colored pictures of the wonderfully clear distant views. Also pictures of cardinal flowers and finally near Houghtons Cranberry bog a picture of fringed gentian. I was happy to get this for the fringed gentians are very scarce. Brought one blossom home and made sketch on page opposite Sept. 1. Elise and I at Jim and Sarah Thayers for dinner Jim's mother is visiting them. She is very much from Boston We are packing up and it is hard to leave this lovely spot. Have not heard from Bill since Tuesday evening. [Headlings: Evening Gazette; War news]
