Generic Work
Image 83 of Theo Brown Diaries, 1913
Public DepositedTuesday, March 11, 1913 Very warm and springlike. Mr Todd was interested in the idea of heat treatment for axles. I went to Deere & Co and looked over their equipment. It is quite elaborate and expensive. There are two points that might prove difficult. Keeping the bars straight and free from scale. The heat has to be from 1400° to 1600° and the bars then quenched in oil. This oil has to be circulated to keep it cool enough not to take fire. Did not feel much like work today. Built Spreaders up to 19200. New board drop hammer has come. Figured that a beater bar to punch, straighten, make and put in 10 pins costs 1.1 cents. Letter from Elise. Bed 8.45
