Tuesday, February 10, 1931 Clear Working on tractor design. What we want is variable tread and high clearance and the adjustment simple to make. The idea sketched below shows tractor having quill construction & drive something like our present G.P. wide tread tractor. [Drawing: Guill construction & drive] Feb. 10, 1931 [Signature: Theo Brown] Witnessed Feb. 10, 1931 [Signature: L.A. Murray] Thought of this idea today. It applies to wide tread tractor design for changing tread of rear tractor wheels by driving tractor along the ground. "C" is quill attached to differential housing splined inside. "D" telescopes inside C and it splined on outside surface so it slides in C without turning. Inside of D is threaded. D also is support for tractordrive wheels. B splined tube for driving attached on inner end to differential. A is splined driving shaft telescoping in B. E is threaded ring with jaw end. Free to turn on B. K is sleeve splined with jaw end. J is fork pivoted at H. This fork canforce jaw of K into Jaws of E. Running will spread tread.
