Wednesday, March 20, 1940 Letter from Elise THE ALLIES INN 1703 NEW YORK AVENUE WASHINGTON, D.C. It has been a beautiful summy day, so we did a lot of out of door things, in case it rains tomorrow. This is a very quaint and attractive place. Several old houses connected, but well furnished and well run. The food is very good. Mabel had flowers in our room, and has bee with us all day we did some shopping in the morning, while waiting for Bill to arrive. He got ehrea t noon, then we went over to the AAA building to Paul's office and had lunch with him in a huge cafeteria. The Priestors have no car but Paul got a very nice young man in his department, who has a car to take us to Mr Vernon, Lee's mansion and Arlington Cemetary and Lincoln Memorial. It was all lovely and the day so mild it was grand being out of doors. I forgot to say that before lunch we went to the top of the Washington Manument to see the view. We all had dinner together~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tomorrow Paul got us passes to go to the White House, and also to the Bureau of Engraving. I called up the Cillespies and they want us to have lunch or dinner with then ~ I'm to call them back. Called the Loomis's but no one answered, will call again. It's fun being with the two children. The Priestors seem to enjoy them a lot ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oty has "intestinal flu". Ive talked to Elises mother over the phone each day. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~Church Supper~~ Ice went out of Mississippi river today.
