Games are an expression of the cultural context form which they are made. For this project, I was interested in developing a Chinese detective game genre, which focused on a scholar interviewing and judging from a place of interviewing. In order to create such games, I made a “Card Detective Editor,” a system that supports game designers and developers in designing their own detective games which an emphasis on interviewing and formula creation. This report provides an overview of this editor and early user testing of the system. Data from the testing indicates that the tutorial structures and editor provide the necessary support for game designers interested in Chinese detective games to design their own dynamic narratives.
