Drug discovery benefits from the availability of safe and effective methods to create biologically-relevant targets for study. Inspired by this broad challenge in the fields of organic synthesis and drug development, the research described in this dissertation is focused on the synthesis and study of biologically relevant target molecules. The three projects involved in this investigation include: (1) enantioselective sulfoxonium ylide insertion reaction, (2) the synthesis and biological evaluation of naturally-inspired, structure-simplified dimeric chromenones, and (3) enantioselective cyclopropanation-ring expansion reaction of heterocyclic cations.
