Exploring Iterative Revelation in Storytelling
PublicContenu téléchargeable
open in viewerThis project developed an interactive mystery game which explores the idea that we can never know what really happened in the past. Inspired by games like The Last Express (Mechner, 1996) and Her Story (Barlow, 2015), movies like Rashomon (Kurosawa, 1950) and books like Pale Fire (Nabokov, 1962), the detective-themed story uses an iterative revelation mechanic to increase the ambiguity of the player’s understanding of events on successive playthroughs. A secondary goal was to expose the loneliness in each character’s heart and encourage players to reflect on what loneliness can do to people. The project was built with the Unity engine and evaluated based on player feedback and user surveys.
